Find a routine & eliminate excuses to avoid skipped sessions

Updated: Jan 7, 2020

As a cycling coach when planning a clients training programme you should always consider where training can fit in around their daily life. A plan where the sessions are an intrinsic part of their week will help to ensure other duties don't override those already-limited hours. A degree of adaptability and flexibility will allow a session to be moved, rather than omitted, on days where life gets in the way.

During a block of hard training, enthusiasm for training motivation may begin to waver and when that happens, even the smallest distraction can be the excuse you need to skip your next session. Poor weather, a dirty bike, preparing you kit are all excuses cyclists use (especially in winter). However a smart trainer and carefully prepared programme can cancel these particular excuses going forward, meaning you complete the prescribed training sessions.
